4TB or more with FW800

Does WDigital have an external hard drive solution that hosts 4TB and uses a FW800 transfer protocol?

Hi, the latest WD external hard drive with FW800 ports is 3TB.

I want more than the 3TB offered. Is there a possibility there will be upgrades to those drives so i should i wait?

Hi again, I’m not sure if WD will release newer drives with FW800, you might be interested in the My Book Studio Edition II if you need more capacity. Check the link below for more information.

Thanx for the help, let me ask:

  1. Is the 6TBdrive solution, a combination of 2x3TB drives and the 4TB solution, a combination of 2x2TB drives acordingly?

  2. When those drives (6TB or 4TB) connect with my Mac, how many drives are mounted in my desktop? Do i see one disk or more?

  3. Suppose i want to divide the 6TB solution to two drives (a 4TB and a 2TB drive) is it possible to be able to use one of the two as a TimeMachine drive and the other for storing purposes?

  4. Will there be any possible issues if i do the setup described on 3?

  1. Yes

  2. They will appear as a single drive for the Mac.

  3. You can only access the Studio 2 as a single partition, RAID 0 to access all of the available space or RAID 1 to cut the available space in half so you can have a backup of your information on drive B.

  4. See answer 3.

So my options with this drive are, either have one 4TB drive, or 2x2TB drives the second to act as a backup of the first!
