Even if they permanently remove it from future MyBook Essentials and My Passports, that won’t remove it from yours.

And since they sell drives without the VCD (that are cheaper), there’s no real reason for them to remove it.

If you want the Smartware VCD, you buy a MyBook Essentials or a My Passport; if you don’t want it you buy an Elements for less money.
