Put together a brand new computer a month ago:
ASUS P7P55D LE
Intel Core i5
WD10EADS 1TB green caviar drive
Windows 7
Computer has been freezing intermittently since day one. I kept thinking it was a compatibility problem but I just ran the Western Digital Data LifeGuard Diagnostics and the drive fails the quick test with the following error message:
Quick Test on drive 1 did not complete. Status code = 07 (Failed read test element), Failure Checkpoint = 109
Then ran an extended test and the extended test passed. What the ....?
How can the drive fail the quick test but pass the extended test?
Today, bought a WD1001FALS drive and it passes all tests and runs without freezing.
Should I return the WD10EADS for a refund?

Greetings,
The initial results of your testing are not good. I'd recommend that you back up your data (now) as a precaution. It is possible for a drive to fail a quick test, but pass the extended. If you encounter the same error two or more times after testing, I would RMA or replace the drive. If you wish to test the drive further, perform a low level format (Write Zeros), selecting Full Erase when promted. If the drive errors again, you have a confirmed failure.
