Are SATA 6.0 Gb drivs compatible with 1.5 Gb controllers?

I work with older hardware, and I know with using 3.0 Gb drives on 1.5 Gb controllers there were at least two approaches where you either set a jumper or some kind of software has to be run to modify the firmware maybe? Since it's yet another generation removed I'm just wondering if that's an issue at least as far as WD drives. It feels a little silly to put a new drive into a computer that old but a new drive is of course the most reliable, and not necessarily much more expensive than even a mfg refurb.

SATA 6.0GB HDD can only lower the speed to SATA 3.0.
