No write access to new drive

I added a new drive (F:) to my Windows 7 computer and copied a load of data files from the C: drive to the new F: drive.

Now all the files and folders on the F: drive are read-only.

If I open up the properties window for the top level folder in F and untick the read-only box and click apply, windows appears to go through all the files and folders changing the setting. But it does nothing - when I open up the properties window for the top level folder (or any sub-folder) the read-only box is still ticked.

It is if windows thinks the new hard drive is a read only drive.

What can I do?

If you copied files to begin with then the drive is not read only

you can format the partition

try testing with different files after the drive has been formatted
