WD40EZRX Disable Idle Timer

Hi, I recently bought the WD 4TB Green WD40EZRX Drive.

Works great so far, but I have one major issue…The drive powers down after 15 minutes of idle time!

I changed all the power settings in Windows, no help.

I found a hacky fix called NoSleepHD that will write a blank text file at a time interval to keep the drive awake, but that isn’t really what I want to do.

It seems like WDIdleDisable.exe is exactly what I need, but I don’t think it is compatible with my drive…

I have been at this for 2 days straight now and can’t seem to find an answer…is there anything I can do to change this setting?

Thanks

Welcome to the Community. The WDIdleDisable Tool was designed for the WD Elements Portable line of external hard drives, and not for internal disk drives. There is also a dedicated utility for this particular purpose made for the WD Red family of hard drives and for previous generations of WD RE-GP hard drives, however, they do not normally support current WD Green hard drives as this hard drive family was designed for low power consumption.

Regards,

I understand, but I didn’t realize this was one of the features when I ordered the drive, as it was not advertised as such.

It seems like I’m not alone in this, as a lot of other Green Drive owners are posting on the net about the same issue…is there any chance some utility could be written or some kind of workaround so that if one does buy a Green Drive by accident not knowing this featue comes with it, it can be changed?

Try wdidle3.exe.
