WD20EARX extremely slow after upgrade from Win 7 to Win 8

My WD Caviar Green 2TB (WD20EARX) has become extremely slow in Windows 8. To the point where it takes 15-20 seconds to just open a moderately sized folder. This HDD is not the system disk.

The first time I upgraded to Win 8 the HDD worked fine, but I had to redo the installation due to other problems.

When I installed Win 8 fresh I first got the problem where the HDD was extremely slow.

I then installed Win 7 again to go the upgrade route (since it worked the first time) but the problem remained. Worth noting is that the HDD wasn’t slow like that in Win 7.

I’d appreciate some help in figuring out what the problem could be. I thought about updating firmware but I’ve only found software that says the HDD needs to be connected via USB.

Try testing the drive with Data Lifeguard Diagnostics

Run defrag and format the drive and see if that helps
