WD15EADS Unstable Sectors

I recently noticed that my WD15EADS had 661 unstable sectors. I have had the disk for about two years from new.

SInce then, the unstable sector count has dropped to 9.

Is there anything I can do to restore stability to the drive and ensure it doesn’t corrupt?

not much.  there are only so many sectors held in reserve for this.  you are probably looking at replacing the drive.

I find it hard to believe that a £100+ HDD only has a two year life span!

I have enough space on my 3TB Seagate disk to move the files off the WD disk temporarily and ‘write zeros’ using Data Lifeguard.

Would this help?

Also, what causes unstable sectors?

i think you should RMA the drive… you will loose data sooner or later…

its just luck… and you re moving the files to a 3 TB seagate o.o  be careful because that lign of hard drives is prone to not being detected in BIOS sometimes…
