Using enternal HDD as external HDD

Hello community.

I’m posting this on behalf of my friend. He recently bought SDD (Samsung Evo) which is now in his Asus Laptop (x75v series). He removed his WD 750GB HDD (Blue) from his laptop and bought a USB case for HDD. HDD is now in that case and is meant to be used as external HDD.

Windows detects the disk but it’s not shown in ‘My Computer’.

Must he install some drivers or is it problem in OS?

Thanks for your help in advance and sorry for my poor english.

Best regards,

Kevin

Hi the drive does not need any drivers. It should work the same as any external drive when you plug it in windows finds and sets it up. Does windows do anything when you plug the usb in.

He can actually see the name of device(see picture) ASMT 2105 USB.

Windows does nothing.

Hey there,

Have you gone into disk manager (right click on “My Computer” - “Manage” - under “Storage”-“Disk Management”) Check if the PC can see the drive, it might not be formatted correctly?

Yup it’s not formatted correctly i guess. How do i set the diskon NTFS?

Hi Jordan

When you are formatting the drive it will give you the option to make it NTFS or FAT32 ext

Here is a quick and easy how to.
