SMART says okay, Windows 7 chkdsk says not so fast

improper shutdowns can cause data corruption i’m pretty sure… its not guaranteed to be a broken drive issue.

running fine ? its possible there was data corruption but not apparent yet to YOU.

I would try using the WD DIag program in DOS and see what it says (not the winows ver.)

also maybe post some more info like a log of your smart data from the drive

and maybe the log from chkdsk ?

maybe some more hardware info too… mobo model, average cpu temps drive details like is it a SATA 3 setup ? AHCI ? what kind of partitions are you using ?

any messages in event viewer related to ‘disk’ ?

what controller is your drive using Intel or Nvidia sata, external card ?

I have learned my lesson.  From now on, whenever I see strange things, I will remove the drive, mount it externally using another system, and run chkdsk.
