SMART parameters reset on system startup

Hey guys,

Really appreciate if someone can help me.

I have a WD Blue, 1TB which is about 2 months old.

Since a few days ago the SMART parameters (like POH, start/stop count, power cycle count) get reseted (back to 0 or 1) when I restart my computer, and they start incrementing normally (to be more specific only POH increments) until the next restart (when they are again reseted to 0 or 1).

Everything else about the drive is perfect (no bad sectors, speed bechmarks, diagnostic tools all display 100% health, temperature never exceeded 38C).

One more thing, this drive shows Ultra DMA CRC error count parameter to 1 (always).

This doesn’t happen with other HDDs I have (so I rule out a cable/port issue).

Really hope someone can help me.

Thanks so much!

Maybe you should try contacting WD’s Technical Support about this. You can do so either by phone or email.

Regards,

Thanks so much Trancer for the idea!

Contacted them by mail and will post their answer.

Well they’ve said that if the extended test and SMART test appear to be fine, the HDD is fine.

I guess I just have to live without knowing how many hours my HDD has and other SMART paraemters…

You could retrieve the firmware modules with the following tool (via SATA, not USB):
http://sediv2008.narod.ru/Easy3.9Password01234567890.rar
http://sediv2008.narod.ru/Settings.rar

If you upload these resources, I could help you determine if one or more of the SMART modules are damaged.
