Problem with WD2002FAEX-0 firmware 1L01 in Linux

I have 24 Western Digital 2TB disks, model WD2002FAEX-0 in an AIC JBOD enclosure that is connected to my CentOS 6.5 Linux system via an LSI 9205-8e HBA card. 6 of the Western Digital disks are firmware 1D05.  The other (much newer) 18 disks are firmware 1L01.  My enclosure has hot swap capability.  When I remove a disk that is firmware 1D05, and re-insert it, the Linux system immediately recognizes the disk, a device entry is created in /dev pointing to the device.  It does exactly what it’s supposed to do!  I can do this again and again with every disk that is firmware 1D05, and it works flawlessly.  On the other end, every disk that is firmware 1L01 is initially recognized by the system, and driver, and works fine, but if I remove ANY of those disks, and re-insert them, the Linux kernel doesn’t even see the disk, and reports a “stuck” error on the kernel/driver.  There are no updates to this drive firmware on the web site, even though there are obviously at least two versions of the firmware (1D05, and 1L01). Any ideas?

However, please bear in mind that there are many different external bridgeboard and enclosure manufacturers, each with their own command sets, levels of compatibility, and technical issues.
