Old drive partition

I have an older system with a WDC WD800JD-08MSA1 ATA drive. It originally came with pre-installed Vista and the backup is on a small partition. Can I safely delete and reformat this space and use it as a secondary? It is separate from the operating system and seems to be on it’s own ‘partition’ as 1. what do you think? This is a WD site after all, so hopefully some surer tech will understand and inform me. thank you for reading.

Hello and welcome to the WD community.

If the partition appears as a separate drive and it does not interfere with your operating system, this should not be a problem but i would recommend to double check in case the system does use this partition in any way or if this partition contains any information you may need.

Hi if you have already writtent your recovery media yes you can just format it and leave it or. You can use disk managment to delete that partition and extend the bigger one so it uses that space also.
