Has anyone sucessfully changed the AAM on a WD FAEX Black drive?
All the utilities I’ve tried so far (including hdparm) indicate AAM isn’t supported, but these drives are so noisy (even at idle) that they really do need to be set to ‘quiet’ - someone coined the phrase ‘sounds like a coffee percolator on the stove next to you all the time’ and that is very apt.
The ones we have are WD1502FAEX 1.5TB drives, but any info on the 1TB or 2TB drives would be helpful also.
WD EU support also say AAM isn’t supported… which seems crazy when the drives have such a loud seek.
