New WD60EFRX 6TB drives do they have the idel3 issue, how can I tell?

I just installed 5 of these drives into a synoloogy Diskstaiton 1513+.  How can I determine if they have the IDLE3 timer issue???/  Do I have to remove them from the diskstaiton.  I saw the utility for windows but man I couldn’t make it work even with the drive I do have installed in my desktop let alone trying to look inside the Diskstation.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Peter

Hi peter27284,

If you are referring to the load/unload counter, all WD Red drives manufactured in 2014 should have the update.

Load/Unload Utility

@peter27284, you could use a tool such as CrystalDiskInfo or smartctl (Linux) to view the drives’ SMART reports. Check the raw values of the Power On Hours and Load/Unload Cycle Count attributes. That should tell you if the drives are autoparking excessively.

Alternatively, the DiskStation has a “S.M.A.R.T. Test” under the “HDD Management” tab. Perhaps it reports the raw SMART values.
