New WD2001FASS: writes are awfully slow (10% of the expected performance)

New 2TB WD2001FASS, Windows 7

  

Read performance seems fine, but writes are awful. Takes several hours to format a 50Gb partition.

HDTune file benchmark shows less than 10 Mb/sec for writes. Screen shot is here (blue are reads, orange are writes):

 I expect performance as measured here:  http://bit.ly/dCLIbH and here  http://bit.ly/b1KNGb 

Also, WD’s spec ( http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/SpecSheet/ENG/2879-701276.pdf) says 138 Mb/sec.

Windows driver configuration for the hd has checkmark next to “enable write caching for the device”.

I didn’t touch any jumpers. 

Is there anything I can try (jumpers, firmware update) ? Any help is greatly appreciated!
