I just purchased a new WD 3TB green internal HDD. My bios sees the drive but is only recognizing it as 800mb (802mb to be exact). I cannot figure out what the issue is.
I am running an Asus p5k SE motherboard
Would appreciate some help.

Your motherboard’s SATA ports cannot see a total of 3TB.
You have 3 x PCIe x1 slots, so you should look
into installing a modern 3G or 6G controller that
can address these larger HDDs e.g.
Highpoint RocketRAID 2640x1:

64bit LBA support greater than 2TB per volume.

Another alternative, if you have the money, is to
switch to an x1 PCI-E video card e.g. AMD FirePro 2270
and use your x16 slot for a higher performing RAID controller
with x4 or x8 edge connector e.g. Highpoint RocketRAID 2720SGL:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816115100&Tpk=N82E16816115100
The latter requires that you also purchase at least one SFF-8087 “fan out” cable.
This one from Highpoint is 1 meter (~39 inches):

… and the comparable cables from Adaptec are only 0.5 meter,
which will help if you have limited room for cable management:

Thank you very mcuh for the advice. I had spent a week updating drivers and trying to figure out the problem.
There is nothing that can be done other than to buy a controller card?
Sorry, one more question…how do I identify a controller that will work for this purpose…what specs do I look for?
The controller that you are suggesting is a bit expensive for me…it is about what I paid for the drive. If possible I would like to get something working for a bit les $$$
Thanks,
Aaron
