Incorrect SMART Power On Hours (RE3 1TB)

I have three 1TB RE3 (WDC WD1002FBYS-01A6B0) and three 160GB RE1 (WDC WD1600YS-01SHB1) installed in my local servers. Every HDD should have a power on time of at least one year now, though SMART reports 66 hours for every RE3, while its close to three years for my old RE1s.

Why doesn’t it keep properly track of its total power on time?

Try getting a second opinion with hd tune or other application

I already did. I used smartmontools and aida64. Same result. I doubt the software is the issue.

Also, I tried this with two different mainboards (Asus P8P67 Deluxe rev2.0 and Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R). Same result here as well.

Anyone running the same HDD as me, could you check your smart values as well and post them here? Since I got three drives with the identical issue, it might be an issue with the whole RE3 1TB series.

Edit: Just like I thought… it certainly is counting the hours, but its loosing those from time to time. log of the same RE3 1TB from above, just one day later:
