Hey i got my Western Digital SE16 500GB Sata2 hard drive.
When i started my pc today, i should press F1 because of an hard disk error. After that i went to google searced the web, and found a Western Digital Diagnostic program i downloaded. The program searched for errors in 1 ½ hours and found a “End-to-end” error with a red number “97”
I will try HD Tune then. But I have contacted the place I bought my computer, and they told me to send the hard drive back to them, so that is also what im going to do.
I dont know if im correct on the “error 97” but the Western Digital Diagnostic program told me that something “End-to-End” had a value of 97 instead of 100…
End-to-End error / IOEDC – “This attribute is a part of Hewlett-Packard’s SMART IV technology, as well as part of other vendors’ IO Error Detection and Correction schemas, and it contains a count of parity errors which occur in the data path to the media via the drive’s cache RAM.”
I have seen this error in other drives without any apparent ill effects. I suspect that the affected data are automatically retransmitted and corrected, but I’m not certain about this.
