Formatting a 3TB Green drive

Just got myself a new 3TB WD30EZRX drive and am planning to instal it into a Windows 8.1 PC as a secondary drive. I have tried to format it using a SATA docking port but it is only showing up as a 752GB unallocated drive. This is also confirmed when I check the drive properties.

Running DL Diagnostics doesn’t even show the drive. Am I missing something or do I have to connect it directly to a SATA connection rather than using a SATA Bridge-USB docking port.

Have also tried using the docking port with my Win 7 laptop without any success.

Cheers

Hello and welcome to the WD Community.

If possible, test the drive with a different dock station and connection the drive internally to the computer to see if you get the same.

This way, you will be able to identify if there’s an issue with the unit or the dock station.

Connecting it directly into the PC shows 2 unallocated partitions totalling 3TB. Clearly something different happens when using this drive in a USB docking station.

Cheers.
