AV-GP 3TB shows 800Gb in BIOS

Hey. bought a WD 3Tb HDD(WD30EURS) and did a fresh install of win 7 64-bit.

Afterwards I discovered win 7 recognizes only 2 tb and the rest is unallocated. And my BIOS only see the HDD as 800Gb…

My motherboard http://www.msi.com/product/mb/P35-Neo.html

The BIOS is updated too…

So later I’m thinking of getting a SSD and use the 3Tb HDD as storage, when using it as storage and turning it into a GPT disk - Does the motherboard have to support UEFI to be able using it as storage??

Thumbs up for some help!

Not necessarily, some Bios system have capability to recognize a 3 TB units.  Now, you motherboard came out in 2007 and the 3 TB units came out in 2010 so not sure if it will get that.  in case that is does not recognize that you can always partition the drive in two storage units.

A UEFI BIOS is only required if you wish to boot from your 3TB drive. You should still be able to use your new drive for storage, but you will need to ensure that you have the latest SATA drivers for your motherboard.

The following document lists the requirements for each OS and BIOS.

Thanks for the help. Then I will use it as storage!
