I have a feeling I’d have to pay WD for tech support because this 120GB desktop HD is way, way out of warranty and was being used only as a backup for an old system still running Windows 98SE (special old hardware attached, just won’t run on 2000 or XP), which doesn’t like anything over 137GB. It’s now backed up to a 1TB WD, and I can’t reproduce the problem. FZabkar noticed the pattern of bad bits and suggested it was related to pin #4 on the IDE cable. He’s probably right.
